(Jackson, MI) – Brian Rooney, in the first debate of the primary election season, scored an early victory and again distinguished himself as the leading Republican candidate in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. Speaking to a receptive audience of over 300 in Lenawee County, Rooney’s message clearly resonated with voters who are tired of career politicians and want new leadership in Congress.

After the debate, Rooney said, “I would like to thank the Lenawee 9.12 Forum for putting this great event together.” He continued, “I appreciate the opportunity to engage my primary opponents on our substantive differences. I look forward to the next several debates because they will give me more opportunities to show voters that I am the candidate who has the energy, real world experience, and new ideas in this race.”

“As we head into the final twenty-five days, I believe that voters are embracing our campaign’s message of new leadership for a stronger and more prosperous Michigan,” said Rooney. “Voters are tired of career politicians. They want a representative who can get things done. Over the next several weeks, I will continue to spread my positive and forward-looking message to voters across our congressional district.”

(Jackson, MI) – Brian Rooney, Republican candidate in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, released the following statement this morning about Elena Kagan’s possible confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Rooney said, “As a military officer and Constitutional attorney, I have grave misgivings about Elena Kagan’s fitness to serve on our nation’s highest court.”

“As Dean of Harvard Law School, Ms. Kagan unfairly and illegally discriminated against military recruitment of law students on campus,” said Rooney. “We need the best and brightest leading our military, especially during wartime. Ms. Kagan’s actions as Dean of Harvard Law School prevented students from learning about the many opportunities the military has to offer. That’s unconscionable. I joined the Marine Corps in my second year of law school and I have benefited tremendously in both my personal and professional life.”

“Given her public anti-military views, can we really trust her to be fair and impartial? I certainly can’t.”
